25 Nominations for German Television Awards 2016

The nominations for the 17th German Television Awards have just been announced: with a total of 14 nominations in 11 categories, Mediengruppe RTL will be strongly represented at the presentation of the German Television Awards. UFA Fiction picked up a total of 11 nominations and has the most nominations of any production company. Two of the nominations are in the “Best Script” category, and three are for “Best Actor”. The independent jury of the German Television Awards evaluated 800 program suggestions over the past several months and announced 49 nominations in 20 categories. As always, the panel of judges will decide about the award winners on the day of the awards ceremony.

RTL

RTL is nominated in a total of nine categories. The internationally acclaimed and award-winning RTL series “Deutschland 83”, produced by UFA Fiction, picked up four nominations. The suspenseful UFA Fiction production about a young spy who gets caught up in the vortex of the secret services in the year 1983, was nominated in the categories “Best Series”, “Best Script” (Anna Winger), “Best Camerawork” (Philipp Haberlandt and Frank Küpper) and “Best Actor” (Jonas Nay). The drama “Starfighter – Sie wollten den Himmel erobern”, set in the 1960s and 1970s against the background of one of the biggest scandals in German post-war history, was nominated in the category “Best Film Design” (Peri de Braganca, costume design, and Thomas Franz, production design).

“Das Jenke Experiment” was nominated in the “Best Factual Entertainment” category, and the documentary film “Sie mussten die Hölle sehen – Auf der Flucht vor Boko Haram” enters the competition for the coveted award in the “Best Documentary/Reportage” category. The documentary from the series “30 Minuten Deutschland” was broadcast as part of the theme day “Refugees on RTL” on 31 August. This theme day was also nominated in the category “Best Information: Reporting on the Refugee Crisis”. With her presentation of “Die 2 – Gottschalk & Jauch gegen ALLE”, Barbara Schöneberger has a chance to win an award in the category “Best Presentation Entertainment”.

Vox

"Club der roten Bänder" with Anton 'Toni' (Ivo Kortlang, Leo (Tim Oliver Schultz), Emma (Luise Befort), Alex (Timur Bartels), Hugo (Nick Julius Schuck) and Jonas (Damian Hardung).  Vox is nominated for the German Television Awards in a total of five categories: after much praise from viewers and critics and excellent ratings, the first in-house produced Vox series “Club der roten Bänder” has now received a nomination for the German Television Awards in the category “Best Series”. Jens Oettrich, composer of the successful dramedy series, can be pleased with a nomination in the “Best Music” category.

In addition, “Die Höhle der Löwen” was able to score with the panel of judges: the Vox startup entrepreneurs show was nominated in the category “Best Factual Entertainment”. “Sing meinen Song – Das Tauschkonzert” already won the German Television Award in 2014 in the category “Best Entertainment”; now, the music event series with Xavier Naidoo has once again been nominated in the category “Best Entertainment Primetime”. In addition, “Asternweg – Eine Straße ohne Ausweg” was nominated by the panel of judges in the category “Best Documentary”. For the documentary, Vox accompanied the everyday lives of residents who live in the social hotspot Asternweg in Kaiserslautern.

UFA Fiction

The TV film “Nackt unter Wölfen” (“Naked Among Wolves”) has good prospects to win a German Television Award; it received five nominations, among others for “Best TV Film”. Philipp Kadelbach was nominated in the category “Best Direction”, Stefan Kolditz for his reinterpretation of Bruno Apitz’s novel in the category “Best Script” and Bernd Schlegel for “Best Editing”. Florian Stetter has a chance to win an award for “Best Actor”.

The eight-part series “Deutschland 83”, as mentioned above, can celebrate a total of four nominations. Charly Hübner is nominated for “Best Actor”, among others for the UFA Fiction production “Bornholmer Strasse”. For his acting performance as lieutenant colonel Harald Schäfer in Christian Schwochow’s tragicomedy, Hübner already won the Actor’s Award of the German Academy of Performing Arts. Last but certainly not least, Maria Simon has prospects to win an award for “Best Actress” for her distinguished performance of a person running amok in the TV drama “Silvia S. – Blinde Wut”.

The 17th German Television Awards, the New Year’s gathering of the television industry and the first industry event of the year, will be presented at Düsseldorf’s Rheinterrassen with a new concept on Wednesday, 13 January 2016. The awards have been presented each year since 1999 and are the most prestigious awards for creatives in the television sector in Germany. In the year 2016, RTL is responsible for the project management of the reconceived television awards.
