BMG Makes Largest Catalog Investment In Its History

Jason Aldean’s works form part of a music rights collection with more than 1,000 songs from 23 artists.

BMG has acquired the music catalog of Country music superstar Jason Aldean as well as interests in the recorded and publishing rights of a collection spanning 23 artists and songwriters. The acquisition covers more than 1,000 songs across multiple genres. According to the Berlin-based global music company, this marks its single largest catalog acquisition investment to date. BMG also noted that since the launch of Bertelsmann’s “Boost” program in 2021, its total investment in music rights has now surpassed $1.5 billion.

‘A new level for catalog acquisitions at BMG’

“This landmark deal sets a new level for catalog acquisitions at BMG while underscoring our commitment to music and the discipline of our approach,” said Thomas Coesfeld, CEO of BMG. “By bringing together the iconic catalog of Jason Aldean, we are strengthening our footprint in Country music, broadening our genre reach, and deepening our investment in the U.S., the world’s largest music market. This move highlights our ability to maximize the value of music rights and represents an important step in BMG’s strategy to be the most effective and artist-friendly music company in the world.”

The acquisition of Aldean’s recorded catalog and neighboring rights brings his entire musical career once again under the BMG umbrella. The company had previously acquired his label home, BBR Music Group, in 2017.

‘A full-circle moment for me’

Jason Aldean said: “BBR Music Group and BMG have always shown a strong commitment to my music and believed in me as an artist. Knowing that all of my music is now in the hands of my long-time label team makes this a full-circle moment. I’m proud that my songs will continue their journey with them into this next chapter.”

BMG notes that the deal includes nine studio albums – from Aldean’s Platinum-certified debut in 2005 to the chart-topping “9” in 2019. His subsequent albums “Macon, Georgia” (2021–2022) and “Highway Desperado” (2023) were also released by Broken Bow Records, an imprint of BMG/BBR Music Group.

Jon Loba, President, Frontline Recordings, The Americas, said: “Jason Aldean’s debut album was not only a major commercial success, it helped define the sound of Country music for years to come. While his signature style has remained a constant thread across all his releases, Jason has consistently pushed boundaries both sonically and lyrically. His unwavering commitment to evolution ensures that each new album offers fans something fresh while continuing to shape the genre itself. For millions of people, these albums mark defining moments in their lives, which makes bringing them back to the place where they were born all the more meaningful.”
