Bruno Mars Scores 11 MTV Video Music Award Nominations
The BMG songwriter tops the list of most-nominated artists alongside Lady Gaga.
When the MTV Video Music Awards are presented on September 7, BMG songwriter Bruno Mars will be one of the strongest contenders for multiple wins, with 11 nominations. Only his duet partner Lady Gaga is ahead of him, with 12.
Mars earned two nominations in the coveted Video of the Year category – one for “Die With a Smile” and another for “APT.,” his collaboration with ROSÉ. This makes him only the fourth artist ever to receive two nominations in the same category in the same year, joining David Lee Roth (1985), U2 (1988), and Lady Gaga (2010). He also received two nominations for Song of the Year for these same hits.
Nominations for Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson, and Lenny Kravitz, too
The 42nd edition of the MTV Video Music Awards will feature a new Best Country category for the first time. “Best Country” nominees include BMG artists Jelly Roll for “Liar” and Lainey Wilson for “4x4xU.” BMG recording artist and publishing client Lenny Kravitz has been nominated for Best Rock for “Honey,” after winning in the same category last year.
First held in 1984, the MTV Video Music Awards honor outstanding music videos and are known for presenting new talent, influencing trends, and delivering standout live performances. This year’s ceremony will take place at the UBS Arena in Elmont on Long Island, New York.
