Coldplay Fully Rely On ‘Eco Record’
Following “Moon Music”, the band are now re-releasing all of their albums as “Eco Records” produced by Sonopress.
British pop-rock band Coldplay now fully rely on the sustainable “Eco Record” produced by Bertelsmann Marketing Services’ storage media manufacturer Sonopress. Following the release of their album “Moon Music”, which was exclusively released as an “Eco Record”, the band now decided to re-release all of their albums – and hence their entire discography – as sustainable “Eco Records” made from recycled plastic bottles.

“Moon Music” featuring the smash hit “Feelslikeimfallinginlove” was an enormous success and debuted at No. 1 on charts in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the UK and the US. In the UK, the album was Platinum certified. Following the band’s decision, Sonopress is now producing the “Eco Record” versions of all of Coldplay’s albums, including “A Head Full Of Dreams” (2015), which sold more than five million copies, and “Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends” (2008), which sold more than ten million copies.
Coldplay continue their sustainability mission with this decision. The mission is based on a study co-financed by Coldplay, in which scientists examined the CO2 footprint of the live music industry. Based on the study’s results, the band have been committed to reducing the emissions of their tours and sold products. Now, with the Sonopress “Eco Record”, Coldplay are able to reduce carbon emissions during manufacture by 85% compared with traditional vinyl production. Instead of vinyl, the Sonopress product consists of 100% recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) – on average, each LP is made from nine recycled PET plastic bottles, according to Sonopress.

The process for producing “Eco Records” is unique worldwide and has inspired many different artists, who have recently released their Eco Records. Sonopress Managing Director Sven Deutschmann recently received a Bertelsmann Award for the commitment and entrepreneurial development. Coldplay’s manager personally wrote an email to the Sonopress team thanking them for their courage, innovative strength, and reliability as a partner.
