How Gifts Get Under The Christmas Tree

The “Bertelsmann Erleben” social media team took a look behind the scenes at VVA-Arvato Media in Verl.

If you have always wanted to know how toys are delivered to arrive in time to be placed under the Christmas tree as gifts, a new video of the “Bertelsmann Erleben  ” social media channel gives you a good idea of the work done by our colleagues at Arvato in Verl near Gütersloh. The site of Arvato’s Vereinigte Verlagsauslieferung (VVA) serves a variety of toy manufacturers, including Kosmos, Moses, or Amigo, the holder of Pokémon sales rights in Germany, and has been supplying toys to retailers and end consumers throughout Germany for more than 20 years.

Three employees give a tour of the company

The social media team was accompanied on its visit by three Arvato employees, who work at different stations of the production process. Katja Mahr, Account Manager at VVA, gave insights into commercial processing and the receipt of customer inquiries. Danny Geißler, Group Lead Order Picking, gave a tour of the logistics area, and Amélie Ohligschläger, Head of Operations at Arvato, provided a comprehensive overview of the operational processes.

The video tour of the Bertelsmann team guides viewers from order receipt to order picking and goods dispatch and shows how closely commercial and logistical processes are interconnected in order to reliably meet the high demand, especially during the Christmas holiday season – which already begins in July for the colleagues in Verl.

Arvato prepares for this peak period well in advance: The staff at the Verl site has been increased from around 160 to 200 employees this year. In addition, colleagues are working in two shifts to handle the massive increase in order volumes. Team spirit plays a crucial role: “Without our employees, the business would not function,” emphasizes Danny Geißler and underscores the importance of each colleague in the overall process.
