‘New York Times Book Review’ Names The ‘10 Best Books Of 2025’
Half of the titles on this year’s “10 Best Books” list are published by Penguin Random House U.S.
The annual “10 Best Books” list from the “New York Times Book Review,” the literary supplement of the renowned daily newspaper “The New York Times,” is considered the most influential of year-end book rankings in the United States. For booksellers and readers alike, it serves as an important guide as the holiday season enters its busiest phase. The “10 Best Books” list is drawn from the “100 Notable Books of 2025,” released last week. From that larger selection, the editors of the “New York Times Book Review” have now chosen their ultimate favorites. Of the “10 Best Books of 2025” – five fiction and five nonfiction titles – half are published by Penguin Random House U.S.
This year, the U.S. publishing group contributes two titles in the Fiction category and three in Nonfiction. The novels “The Loneliness Of Sonia And Sunny” by Kiran Desai (Hogarth/Random House Audio) and “Stone Yard Devotional” by Charlotte Wood (Riverhead/Penguin Audio) were both selected for the annual list. In nonfiction, the editors chose “A Marriage At Sea” by Sophie Elmhirst (Riverhead/Penguin Audio), “Mother Emanuel” by Kevin Sack (Crown/Random House Audio), and “There Is No Place For Us” by Brian Goldstone (Crown/Random House Audio) as three of the year’s top five books.
Penguin Random House U.S. had already delivered an impressive showing on the previously published “100 Notable Books of 2025,” contributing 38 titles in total: 16 works of fiction and poetry, and 22 nonfiction and memoir titles. Among them are bestsellers by authors such as Patrick Ryan, Thomas Pynchon, Han Kang, Ian McEwan, and Margaret Atwood.
