Penguin Random House To Publish Carlo Ancelotti Memoir

Ancelotti is one of the most successful soccer coaches in European club history.

Italian soccer coach Carlo Ancelotti is one of the most successful club managers in the world. Following the bestselling success of “Quiet Leadership” (2016), in which he recounted his leadership philosophy as a football manager through numerous anecdotes, the star coach describes in his latest book, “Der Traum. Wie man die Champions League gewinnt” (“The Dream: How to Win the Champions League”), how these successes came about – and why, in his view, football isn’t all that different from the rest of life. Penguin Random House will publish the book in English through Ebury Spotlight on December 30 and in German through C. Bertelsmann as early as October 1.

League titles in Europe’s top five leagues

Carlo Ancelotti has managed some of the most prestigious European clubs, including AC Milan, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, and Real Madrid. To date, he is the only coach to have won league titles in all five of Europe’s top leagues (Italy, England, France, Germany, and Spain). But most impressive of all is his record in the Champions League: five victories as a coach and two as a player make Ancelotti the all-time record holder. In “The Dream,” he tells the captivating stories behind each of his seven Champions League wins, interwoven with anecdotes from his remarkable playing career – from dreaming as a child of lifting the trophy one day, to the special and emotional moments that made each triumph unique, to the lessons he drew from his most devastating defeats.

“This is the story of how my dream came true seven times,” says Carlo Ancelotti. “But it’s also the story of the many other occasions when that goal proved out of reach. In that sense, soccer is not so different from the rest of life. The truth is, you usually don’t win the Champions League. And I hope I’m humble enough to see my defeats as good lessons.” He was supported in writing the book by Chris Brady, Professor of Management Studies and Director of the Centre for Sports Business at the University of Salford in England.

Born in 1959 in Reggiolo, Emilia-Romagna, Ancelotti began his career as a midfielder with AS Roma and AC Milan. He has coached global stars such as David Beckham, Robert Lewandowski, Manuel Neuer, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Zinedine Zidane, and has won league titles in five different countries. He owes his status as a legendary coach to his seven triumphs in Europe’s most prestigious soccer competition, the Champions League. Since June 2025, Carlo Ancelotti has served as the head coach of the Brazilian national team. His bestseller “Quiet Leadership” is also available in English and German from various Penguin Random House publishers.
