Seven German Television Awards For Mediengruppe RTL

At the 21st presentation of the awards organized by several broadcasters, RTL and NTV were honored for their coronavirus reporting. More awards in other categories went to Vox. Due to the pandemic, the presentation gala did not take place.

The German Television Awards organized by ARD, RTL, Sat.1 and ZDF, were presented for the 21st time. Despite the cancellation of the presentation gala due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was important to the donors to honor the outstanding achievements of the past television year. A 13-strong expert jury chaired by Producer and former UFA CEO Wolf Bauer evaluated shows from the period between January 1, 2019 and April 30, 2020 and announced the winners in the categories “Fiction”, “Entertainment”, “Information” and “Sport” yesterday. Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland is delighted about receiving a total of seven awards.

The jury of the German Television Awards also decided to present a special award in the category “Best Information” for outstanding achievements in reporting about the coronavirus. This award goes to the editorial teams of the news and in-depth specials from all broadcasters. RTL received the special award of the jury for the coronavirus reporting of “RTL aktuell” and “RTL Nachtjournal”. The award went to RTL’s Chief Editor Michael Wulf on behalf of the entire team. NTV received the special award of the jury for its overall coronavirus reporting. On behalf of the entire team, NTV’s Chief Editor Sonja Schwetje received the award.

“Of course, I am proud and happy that Mediengruppe RTL has won seven awards. We’re represented in all important genres here, from entertainment to information, documentary and music. I’m very pleased with that because it also reflects the diversity of Mediengruppe RTL,” said Stephan Schäfer, Managing Director of Content & Brands at Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland.
