Thorsten Wirkes Takes on New Position at Bertelsmann Investments in the U.S.

Thorsten Wirkes has been appointed as Senior Vice President Bertelsmann Next at Bertelsmann Investments, effective immediately. Among other things, Wirkes helped build the U.S. business for the digital health insurance company Oscar Health, and most recently advised start-ups in the healthcare sector in New York. As one of Bertelsmann’s seven divisions, Bertelsmann Investments bundles the international media, services, and education group’s global investment activities.

In his newly created position, Thorsten Wirkes will report directly to Carsten Coesfeld, CEO of Bertelsmann Investments. His work will focus on the digital health sector in the US.

After completing his studies at WHU and Columbia University, Thorsten Wirkes started his career at the international management consultancy McKinsey in Germany and the U.S. He went on to work for the digital health insurance company Oscar Health, supporting the establishment of their U.S. business. He most recently worked in New York as a consultant for start-ups in the healthcare sector and for Covera Health, an AI (artificial intelligence) start-up in the field of radiology.
