Tim Minchin At Number One

The BMG artist’s new album “Time Machine” debuts at the top of the Australian charts.

“Time Machine,” the new album by multi-talented BMG artist Tim Minchin, shot straight to No. 1 on the Australian album charts following its release. It marks Minchin’s first-ever No. 1 album in his home country. He also reached No. 4 on the ARIA Album Chart and No. 4 on the Vinyl Chart. Born in the U.K. in 1975, Minchin has been a star in the English-speaking world for two decades thanks to the razor-sharp wordplay in the songs he writes and performances, his live comedy performances, and theater and musical roles. He has also made a name for himself internationally in TV and film productions.

‘Properly studio-recorded for the first time’

Commenting on the release of his new album, Tim Minchin said: “30 years in the making… my new album, ‘Time Machine,’ is out now! All 11 songs were written in my 20s, now reimagined and finally properly studio-recorded for the first time. Some have been played on stages all over the world, and some have barely ever been heard; some are pretty silly and some are very chill; but all are tunes that I think have stood the test of time… ish. I hope you get a kick out of it.”

Heath Johns, President, AUS, NZ and SEA at BMG, added: “Amongst a star-studded line-up of Australian album releases this week, the whole BMG team is delighted to see Tim Minchin’s ‘Time Machine’ land at the summit of the ARIA Australian Artist Chart. Tim returned home to Sydney today after a sold-out U.K. tour and a stellar BMG London office performance – we hope the shiny new ARIA trophy waiting for him at home will help offset the jet lag!”

Second studio album following successful debut ‘Apart Together’

“Time Machine” follows Minchin’s critically acclaimed 2020 debut studio album “Apart Together,” which reached No. 2 on the ARIA charts. The British online newspaper “The Independent” awarded it four stars and called it “a delicately considered pop album that subverts expectations.” A few weeks ago, Minchin launched his “Songs The World Will Never Hear” tour to accompany the release of his new songs. The live show features songs from across three decades of his songwriting career. The tour took him across the U.K. through the end of July, with three shows at London’s Eventim Apollo selling out in record time. He will continue the tour in his native Australia at the end of October.

In addition to two decades of award-winning live performances, Tim Minchin composed the successful stage musicals “Matilda” and “Groundhog Day.” He also served as screenwriter for the award-winning TV series “Upright,” in which he stars opposite Milly Alcock of “House of the Dragon” fame. His film credits include roles such as Atticus Fetch in “Californication,” Friar Tuck in “Robin Hood (2018),” and Darius Cracksworth in Disney’s “The Artful Dodger.” He is also a sought-after speaker – his commencement address collection “You Don’t Have to Have a Dream” was published by Penguin Random House. His stage roles include Judas in the 2014 U.K.–Australia arena tour of “Jesus Christ Superstar” and Rosencrantz in the Sydney Theatre Company’s production of “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.” Minchin is a voice actor, children’s book author, and graphic novelist. His many accolades include two Olivier Awards for Best Musical, a British Composers Award for Best Film Score, a Logie Award for Best Supporting Actor, an AACTA Award for Best Comedy Performance, an Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Newcomer, a WhatsOnStage Award for Best Actor in a Musical, the Richard Dawkins Award for science communication, and an Order of Australia for service to the arts and the community. He has also been nominated for several Tony Awards and a Grammy.
