Bertelsmann and Udacity are awarding learners scholarships for foundational courses in AI programming with Python, Enterprise Security, and Agile Software Development. Bertelsmann is also offering 500 of these 17,000 learners an opportunity to take the related Nanodegree in these fields.

There are two phases to the Next Generation Tech Booster: the Challenge phase, and the Nanodegree phase.
As part of the first phase, you will learn about the foundational elements of the track you’ve selected, a subject that is pivotal to in-demand tech skills. Two of the three Challenge tracks (AI programming with Python and Enterprise Security) have prerequisites that you will be tested on in order to qualify for these Challenge tracks. The Agile Software Development Challenge track has no prerequisites, so applying for this track does not involve a test.
To qualify for the second Nanodegree phase, all students must first complete the Challenge phase. In other words, students cannot apply directly for the Nanodegree phase or skip the Challenge phase. So by applying for this scholarship, you are applying for the Challenge phase and initiating an opportunity to qualify for the subsequent Nanodegree phase.
After completing the first phase, you will get the chance to assess what you’ve learned in a Final Assessment. The 500 students who score highest on this Final Assessment are prioritized for the Nanodegree phase. And throughout your entire journey and across both phases, you will have access to an online community platform where you will get to ask other students and tutors for support to help you through any learning difficulties, or just network.

The Challenge phase gives students an opportunity to gain exposure to their chosen track and build related skills.
In the Nanodegree phase, students will have the opportunity to work on real-world projects designed by industry experts and to build a skillset of in-demand tech skills.

AI Programming with Python
• Basic algebra, and programming knowledge in any language

Enterprise Security
Applicants should
• Be able to set up a Linux server and perform system configuration/management
• Be able to set up an Azure environment and perform cloud configuration/management
• Be familiar with the networking, cloud, and hardware systems relevant to the courses being taught (e.g. if a course teaches Linux security, students should know the basics of how Linux works).
• Be able to identify the most common networking protocols used (HTTP, TCP, DNS, SSH).
• Be able to distinguish between the different hardware components in a network (desktop, server, firewall, etc.).
• Be able to explain the relationship between client and server within an architecture.
• Be able to identify the different encryption protocols (AES, RSA, PGP).

Agile Software Development
• No experience required.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Submit the online application form
• Be 18 years of age or older
• English-speaking
• Pass the technical assessment in the application (if applicable for their track)
• If you are a Bertelsmann employee, please apply for the Bertelsmann Employee Scholarship, which is exclusive to employees, rather than the Next Generation Tech Booster.

No, this scholarship program is free of charge for you. Bertelsmann covers the costs from a central budget.

The Challenge phase is designed to run from Friday, December 15, 2023 to Thursday, February 15, 2024. However, it is important to note that the program is self-paced: You can finish it in less than the designated time if you wish. Please note that you must have completed at least 25% of the course content by January 5, 2024 to continue to actively participate in the scholarship. After completing the first phase, you will get the chance to assess what you’ve learned in a Final Assessment. The 500 students who score highest on this Final Assessment are prioritized for the Nanodegree phase. All students who complete the Challenge Course are granted access to the Final Assessment at 00:00 am (CET) on February 22, 2024. The Final Assessment closes at 11:59 pm (CET) on February 24, 2024. The Nanodegree phase runs from Friday, March 8, 2024 to Monday, July 15, 2024.

This is a fully online program with live virtual Project Walkthrough Webinars. Throughout the duration of the program, students get to learn through online videos in their classroom and interact with peers, coaches, and instructors on their community platform and in their Project Walkthrough Webinars run by Udacity Tutors.
