The issue of G+J’s “Stern” magazine published today and its digital offers almost exclusively dedicate their content to the climate crisis. The content was created in cooperation with the “Fridays for Future” climate protection initiative. A fundraiser will support projects for planting trees.

At the occasion of the Global Day of Climate Action tomorrow, G+J’s “Stern” magazine is sending out a special signal: the print issue published today and the digital offers are almost exclusively dedicated to the climate crisis. “Stern” has entered into a comprehensive and unique cooperation with “Fridays for Future” for this purpose. A fundraiser, which Bertelsmann employees can participate in separately, completes the commitment to climate protection. The topics of the magazine and reporting on the digital channels were jointly developed and produced with the climate activists. Over the past several weeks, the representatives of “Fridays for Future” were invited to numerous editorial meetings at “Stern” during which they planned and designed the content. The articles will be distributed by the activists via the “Stern” social media channels.

“Media support is an important element of our protest”

“We consider climate protection as essential and for this purpose have undertaken an unparalleled experiment,” said “Stern” Editor-in-Chief Anna-Beeke Gretemeier. “We’ve designed ‘Stern’ together with ‘Fridays for Future’ and want to make our contribution to bringing the issue back to the awareness of people. The climate crisis still stands at the top of global priorities.” “Stern” Editor-in-Chief Florian Gless added: “At the same time, we want to keep journalism lively. The joint editorial meetings release additional creativity, especially because we do not agree on all aspects. But one thing unites us: it is time to act, the clock is ticking.” Asuka Kähler of “Fridays for Future” explained: “The cooperation with ‘Stern’ gives us an opportunity to share plenty of information and topics with the public in a diversified way and in a way we haven’t had before. Media support is an important element of our protest. We are happy about this opportunity and naturally hope that ‘Stern’ will continue focusing on the climate crisis with its countless facets as an important element of its reporting.”

“Stern” is making one more contribution with a fundraiser: with the help of the “Plant For The Planet” organization, the magazine will plant a tree for each copy of the current issue sold. Stern.de users will also make a contribution: the more visits the website gets on the Global Day of Climate Action, the more trees “Stern” will have planted. All Bertelsmann employees have the possibility to additionally donate one euro to “Plant For The Planet”. For each euro collected, “Stern” will plant a tree on the Yucatan peninsula – a video about the project is included in this report.
