All albums released by the band since 2000 are now available in the sustainable format.
The “Eco Record” from Sonopress, Bertelsmann Marketing Services’ storage media manufacturer, is continuing its success story. Earlier this year, the famous British band Coldplay already announced that it would be converting its entire back catalog to sustainable vinyl. Now, all ten of the band’s studio albums released since 2000 are available as “Eco Records”.
The catalog’s conversion was a result of the successful cooperation between Coldplay’s label Warner Music and Sonopress for the current album “Moon Music”. The album, which was entirely produced as an “Eco Record”, has already sold almost 400,000 copies and reached No.1 on the music charts in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the UK, and the US.
Commitment to greater sustainability
The cooperation between the label and the “Eco Records” manufacturer Sonopress was recently honored with a Clio Award in Gold. The Clio Awards are among the world’s most prestigious awards for creative excellence and are annually presented in categories such as music, entertainment, and advertising. Sonopress and Warner Music Group are in illustrious company with their project: This year’s Gold winners include Amazon Prime, Billboard Arabia, and Spotify.
The complete switch to “Eco Records” fits in with Coldplay’s self-imposed commitment to greater sustainability. This commitment also accompanied Coldplay on this year’s “Music Of The Spheres” world tour. The packaging for “Moon Music” was made from FSC-certified sources and specifically designed to be recyclable. In addition, the band did not use colors in the design of the records, and left the color as the natural shade of the sustainable PET material to make recycling easier.
