Nominations For Grimme Awards

From over 800 submissions, 76 productions and individual achievements have been nominated for this year’s Grimme Award, including shows from Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland and UFA productions – or, in the case of “Deutschland 83”, of the two combined. The Grimme Award is one of the most prestigious awards for television programs and productions in Germany.

“Club der roten Bänder” and “Mein Kind, dein Kind – Wie erziehst du denn?”

The Vox series “Club der roten Bänder” has been nominated in the category “Children and Youths”. The drama series based on a real story centers around six youths who spend an extended period of time in hospital and develop deep friendship there. Vox fascinated its viewers and critics alike with this series. In January, “Club der roten Bänder” won a German Television Award for “Best Series”. In addition, “Mein Kind, dein Kind – Wie erziehst du den?” has been nominated for a Grimme Award in the “Entertainment” category. The Vox documentary soap presents two sets of parents and their children, who are the same age but are being raised in different ways.

Nomination for “Deutschland 83”

RTL and UFA Fiction as production companies also have a good chance to win a Grimme Award. The eight-part RTL show “Deutschland 83” which has already won multiple awards, has been nominated in the “Fiction/Special” category. The espionage series is about a young spy who is sent to West Germany as an agent and gets caught up in the vortex of the secret services in 1983. The horizontally narrated event series with Jonas Nay, Maria Schrader, Ulrich Noethen and Ludwig Trepte in the lead roles is based on the German-German history of the year 1983, when the world was on the brink of a nuclear catastrophe. Also nominated in the “Fiction/Special” category are the UFA Fiction productions “Nackt unter Wölfen” for ARD and the TV drama “Silvia S. – Blinde Wut” for ZDF.

Project for Refugees

N-TV has been nominated for the web video series “Marhaba – Ankommen in Deutschland”. The multiplatform project, which first launched on the Internet, aims to familiarize refugees and immigrants from the Middle East with life in Germany and facilitate their new start in a new country. In short clips, N-TV host and RTL correspondent Constantin Schreiber talks about issues including religion, equality between men and women, food and drinks or holidays – in fluent Arabic.

The winners of the 52nd Grimme Award 2016 will be announced on 9 March 2016 during a press conference in Essen’s Grillo Theater. The awards will be presented on 8 April 2016 at the Theater of the city of Marl.
