Oscar-winning director Sofia Coppola (“Lost in Translation,” “On the Rocks”) has announced a new film project. The movie, titled “Priscilla,” is based on the memoirs of Priscilla Presley, Elvis Presley’s widow. “Elvis and Me,” her book about her life with the famous singer, was published in 1985 and became an international bestseller. Besides directing the film, Sofia Coppola is also writing the screenplay for “Priscilla.” Fremantle is involved in the project through its Italian production subsidiary The Apartment Pictures, which is co-financing the film project together with Sony’s Stage 6 Films, and whose CEO Lorenzo Mieli is one of the film’s producers.

The female lead Priscilla Presley will be played by U.S. actress Cailee Spaeny (“Mare of Easttown,” “Bad Times at the El Royale”), while the Australian actor Jacob Elordi (“Euphoria,” “Saltburn”) will play Elvis. Besides Lorenzo Mieli, Sofia Coppola herself, the producer Youree Henley and American Zoetrope, the production company of Sofia Coppola’s father Francis Ford Coppola, are the producers behind “Priscilla.” Sofia Coppola will again work with her trusted team, including cinematographer Philippe Le Sourd, costume designer Stacey Battat, editor Sarah Flack, and Tamara Deverell as production designer. Shooting on “Priscilla” is scheduled to begin this fall in Toronto, Canada.
