Sonopress has produced an EcoRecord for Cymande, a veteran British funk band signed with BMG. Their new album “Renascence” is the first sustainably produced long-playing record for a BMG artist or band. According to BMG, this step reflects the label’s own efforts towards sustainability.
Last year, Sonopress, the entertainment and media service provider that is part of Bertelsmann Marketing Services, celebrated numerous successful releases involving the EcoRecord, a sustainably produced long-playing record (LP). Bands including Coldplay and musicians including Liam Gallagher and John Squire have already had their new albums produced in the new format using recycled material. Now Cymande has become the first BMG recording artist to release their album in a version that is as colorful as it is eco-friendly.
‘Part of our commitment to more sustainable solutions’
The British band’s album “Renascence” fuses foundational influences of early hip-hop and funk in the U.S. and U.K. with a fresh, modern edge. Cymande released their first studio album “Promised Heights” in 1974; “Renascence” is their sixth. According to Nitsa Kalispera, Executive Vice President Global Supply Chain at BMG, it is no coincidence that Cymande was chosen as the first BMG band to release an album as an EcoRecord: “The launch of the first BMG EcoRecord with Sonopress is part of our ongoing commitment to more sustainable solutions. At BMG we are continuously exploring ways to reduce our environmental impact while maintaining the highest production standards. ‘Renascence’ is a fitting release to introduce this innovation, reflecting both our sustainability efforts and the artist’s forward-thinking approach.”
“The ‘EcoRecord’ is the result of our dedication to sustainable innovation in the music industry,” said Jörg Pollmeyer, Senior Vice President Sales at Sonopress. “We are honored that BMG is supporting this initiative with such a prestigious release. Cymande’s ‘Renascence’ embodies the spirit of artistic authenticity and evolution, making it the ideal project to showcase the possibilities of our ‘EcoRecord’ technology.”
